The US Department of State, Department of Homeland Security and the U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs announced on Friday that it will pay $3.3 million to settle allegations that it illegally acquired counterfeit erectile dysfunction drugs from a third party through unlawful agreements in exchange for the drugs and other services.
The Department of Justice and the Department of Veterans Affairs announced that they will pay $2.9 million to settle allegations that the Department of Homeland Security, Department of State and Department of Veterans Affairs engaged in the conduct of an illegal scheme that illegally acquired and supplied the counterfeit drugs and the drugs’ manufacturers with false information and other materials.
“The Department of State and the Department of Veterans Affairs acted with a commendable dedication to the investigative and public health, safety, and security of the veterans and their families, and we look forward to holding an important investigative step for our veterans and our families and our veterans of the military,” said David J. Allen, Acting Assistant Attorney General, and Acting Assistant Attorney General, Department of Justice. “This settlement will help to ensure that the Department of State, Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Veterans Affairs have the knowledge and resources to ensure that veterans do not end up paying these illicit prices.”
In exchange for these payments, the Department of State will pay a total of $3.3 million to resolve allegations that the Department of State engaged in a scheme to import and supply counterfeit Viagra and other products to consumers.
